Squid

Some bands build grooves; Squid builds pressure cookers. At the center is Ollie Judge, a frontman pulling double duty on drums and vocals, his yelped, paranoid sermons driving the band’s nervy, sprawling odysseys. Forged in Brighton and now a pillar of the UK’s fertile post-punk revival, they found a perfect co-conspirator in producer Dan Carey, who bottled their kinetic, krautrock-indebted live energy for their 2021 Warp Records debut, Bright Green Field. It’s the sound of five people locked in a tight, geometric sprint, constantly threatening to fly apart but somehow, impossibly, holding it all together.
