Pendulum was the shot of pure adrenaline the UK drum & bass scene didn't know it needed. Hailing from Perth, Australia—a world away from the genre’s London nerve center—Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen landed with their 2005 debut, Hold Your Colour, on Adam F and Fresh's Breakbeat Kaos label. It was a maximalist statement, welding metal's ferocious energy and epic synth hooks onto blistering breakbeats for foundational tracks like “Slam” and “Tarantula.” They pushed this hybrid sound into arenas with In Silico and Immersion, effectively building a bridge for rock kids to cross over into rave culture. Even after a long hiatus and the duo's detour into Knife Party, recent cuts like "Napalm" prove the core engine is still firing.
