Gil Scott-Heron

Gil Scott-Heron, born on April 1, 1949, in Chicago and raised in Tennessee and New York, was a trailblazer in spoken word and jazz funk. Known for his incisive socio-political commentary, his best-known track is "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised." Scott-Heron entered the music scene through poetry and released 29 albums. His work, often blending spoken word with music, was influential in shaping the development of hip hop. He passed away on May 27, 2011.
