Uyama Hiroto

About

More than just an heir to Nujabes's legacy, Uyama Hiroto was its co-architect. As a core multi-instrumentalist and producer for the Hydeout Productions crew, his saxophone, keyboards, and arrangements were elemental to the sound that defined an era, breathing life into tracks on classics like Modal Soul. His own 2008 debut, A Son of the Sun, wasn’t an echo but a parallel statement, a sprawling vision of jazz filtered through a hip-hop classicist’s lens. Where others loop, Hiroto composes, building meditative worlds from live flute and shimmering piano. He didn’t just inherit the blueprint; he was in the room helping to draw it, and still is.
