SOPHIE

About

SOPHIE didn’t just make pop music; she synthesized it from its atomic parts, sculpting sound into something physical you could almost touch. When early singles like “Bipp” and “Lemonade” first landed via the Numbers label, they felt like transmissions from another reality—all fizzing textures, metallic clangs, and elastic, high-gloss hooks. This obsession with materiality reached its apex on the 2018 masterwork, Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides, where the radical vulnerability of “It’s Okay to Cry” finally gave a face to the machine before the joyous abandon of “Immaterial” took hold. As a producer for Charli XCX and Vince Staples, she fundamentally recalibrated pop’s sonic palette, leaving behind a new set of source codes for a generation to build from.
