That’s the story of Saya Gray, the Toronto-based musician who sharpened her teeth playing for artists like Daniel Caesar. But her own project, signed to Dirty Hit, feels like an antidote to that polished world. On her 2022 debut 19 MASTERS, Gray assembles songs from lo-fi scraps and intimate fragments—a hushed vocal, a clipped drum machine, a stray bassline.
