Most producers from the early 2010s YouTube dubstep boom either flamed out or cashed in, but Dublin’s Eoin O'Broin took a weirder path. As Noisestorm, he was an early staple of the Monstercat roster, dropping electro-house bombs like “Airwaves” that defined a certain era of online electronic music. Then, a pivot. He taught himself 3D animation and re-emerged with 2018’s “Crab Rave”—an impeccably produced house track whose self-made, absurdly joyous video became an internet phenomenon. He continues to weld his meticulous production to surreal CGI narratives, crafting everything from the tense underwater chase of “Barracuda” to the heist-film energy of “Breakout.” The meme was the Trojan horse; the real story is an artist in total control of his audio-visual world.
