System of a Down is an Armenian-American alternative metal band formed in Glendale, California, in 1994. The lineup consists of Serj Tankian, Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian, and John Dolmayan. The band achieved major success with five studio albums, including the 2001 release Toxicity, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Their 2005 albums Mezmerize and Hypnotize also topped the U.S. charts. In 2006, their song "B.Y.O.B." won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. After a hiatus that began in 2006, the band reunited in 2010 and released two new songs in 2020.
