CAKES DA KILLA

About

To hear Cakes Da Killa now is to miss the point if you don’t know where he came from. He was already a fully-formed force in the early 2010s New York queer rap explosion, spitting filth with a blistering, technically dazzling flow alongside peers like Mykki Blanco and Le1f. His 2013 mixtape The Eulogy is a foundational document: raw, hilarious, and defiant. But to frame him as an OG is to ignore the constant evolution. He sharpened his club instincts on the 2016 album Hedonism before delivering 2022’s Svengali—a full-blown cinematic concept album released via TOKiMONSTA’s Young Art Records. The bars are still airtight, but now they serve a novelistic ambition.
