Periphery

About

Some bands play a genre; Periphery built the entire building. What began as Misha Mansoor's "Bulb" home recordings on the Sevenstring.org forums became the architectural blueprint for modern progressive metal, transforming a digital obsession into a physical, undeniable institution. Their signature isn’t just the polyrhythmic churn of djent but the intricate latticework of three eight-string guitars—Mansoor, Mark Holcomb, and Jake Bowen—weaving around Matt Halpern’s surgical drumming. Spencer Sotelo navigates these complex structures with a vocal range that shifts from ethereal melody to guttural force in a single bar. From the landmark double LP Juggernaut to founding their own 3DOT Recordings label, they codified a sound by treating technical wizardry as pure emotional expression.
