Big Thief
About
The magic of Big Thief is watching four musicians build a home for Adrianne Lenker’s impossibly raw songwriting. What began in Brooklyn with Buck Meek, Max Oleartchik, and James Krivchenia has become a near-telepathic unit, capable of turning from a hushed whisper to a ferocious squall on a dime. This live-wire chemistry is the engine behind their prolific run on 4AD, which saw them drop two polar-opposite LPs in 2019 alone—the spectral U.F.O.F. and its earthy twin, Two Hands. Their songs feel less written than channeled, a direct line to memory that makes every listen, from early Saddle Creek cuts to the gut-punch of “Vampire Empire,” feel like a private revelation.
